Mission Statement

The National Puerto Rico & Spain Initiative (NPRSI) is a civic and political movement committed to building a just, modern, and sovereign future for Puerto Rico through peaceful reunification with the Kingdom of Spain as an autonomous province. Rooted in historical truth, human rights, and democratic inclusion, our mission is to correct the colonial legacy of the 1898 Treaty of Paris and reclaim Puerto Rico’s rightful path to self-governance under a dignified and internationally recognized model.

We believe the Puerto Rican people deserve access to all legitimate status options, including autonomy with Spain, in any future political referendum—without manipulation, omission, or exclusion. Our movement seeks to unite Puerto Ricans on the island and in the diaspora to demand full participation, justice, and economic opportunity for generations to come.

We work to:

  • Lobby the U.S. Congress and President to ensure that autonomy with Spain is included as an official status option in the next Puerto Rican referendum, alongside statehood, independence, and the current territorial status.

  • Demand that all Puerto Ricans—whether residing on the island or displaced to the mainland U.S. due to natural disasters, economic hardship, or lack of opportunity—are granted the right to vote in the referendum, recognizing their continued stake in the future of Puerto Rico.

  • End Puerto Rico’s colonial relationship with the United States, which has left the island politically voiceless, economically dependent, and vulnerable to exploitation through laws like PROMESA and the Jones Act.

  • Reestablish Puerto Rico’s legal right to autonomy, as granted by the Spanish Crown in the Carta Autonómica of 1897—abolished without consent under the Treaty of Paris—by pursuing reunification with Spain under its modern democratic constitution.

  • Facilitate formal discussions between the governments of the United States, Spain, and Puerto Rico, laying the foundation for a peaceful transition of sovereignty that honors historical continuity and democratic will.

  • Advance the protection and recognition of Puerto Rico’s Indigenous Taíno identity and Afro-Puerto Rican communities, through constitutional and cultural guarantees like those granted in Spain’s autonomous regions.

  • Educate the Puerto Rican public—on the island and in the diaspora—about the opportunities available through autonomy with Spain, including access to EU citizenship, universal healthcare, higher education, trade expansion, and full democratic rights.

  • Unite Puerto Ricans across political lines, encouraging a new generation of leadership that rejects corruption and colonialism in favor of transparency, dignity, and collective progress.

We are not asking to be saved—we are demanding to be heard.
We are not trapped in the past—we are reclaiming our future.
This is not a fantasy—it is a historic, legal, and democratic alternative.

This is our voice. This is our right. This is The National Puerto Rico & Spain Initiative.
